The increase in the price of bread is a violation of the food security of Iranians.
Bread is one of the most important food items for Iranian citizens. According to the news titled “A parliament member announced a 40 per cent increase in the price of bread in several provinces of Iran (Tehran)”, the price of bread has increased by about 40 per cent. He also mentioned “proportional adjustment” as the reason for the price increase at the provincial level.
By exploring the existing laws in the laws of the Islamic Republic, we can address the government’s duty to ensure food security for the people with a broad interpretation of the increase in the price of bread. The existing laws include: Article 43 of the Constitution, Notes 29 and 75 of the Second Development Plan and other laws of the country’s development. From a legal point of view, we can state that governments, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran, have an inherent duty to ensure food security for Iranian citizens and the government is obliged to perform this duty in any situation of war or peace. One of the existing problems in reducing bread consumption can be an increase in malnutrition among the social classes of Iranians, which is a flagrant violation of these cases.
