The Peace and Food Security Association and the Iranian Scientific Association for Peace Studies held a webinar titled “Legal Review of Afghanistan, Hunger, and Livelihood” on October 7, 2024.

This webinar, featuring three speakers from Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, took place from 20:00 to 22:00 on the specified date. The speakers included Dr. Maryam Khaleghi Nejad (Professor and Researcher in Foreign Policy and Diplomacy), who delivered a speech on “The Importance of Food Security from the United Nations’ Perspective,” highlighting the UN’s view on food security and its program to eradicate hunger. Dr. Reyhaneh Saeed Hashemi (Professor from the Department of Political Science, University of Punjab, Pakistan) discussed “Food Security and State Responsibility in Afghanistan: Challenges and Options in International Law,” emphasizing the importance of food security in international law and the extent of the hunger crisis in Afghanistan, along with the responsibilities of the ruling government. Dr. Haroon Rahimi (Senior Researcher and Professor at Kabul University) presented “Environmental Destruction in Afghanistan by Warring Groups,” addressing the historical environmental damages in Afghanistan caused by occupying countries and ruling regimes over the decades.

Additionally, Mr. Arik Adkanian, as the (Secretary and Program Expert), presented “A Brief Report on the Food Insecurity Challenges in Afghanistan and Their Consequences on Afghan Society,” examining the roots and extent of hunger in Afghanistan.

This webinar was unique, as it addressed the challenges of food insecurity in Afghanistan from various perspectives.
